Concept

The gallery consists of photographs of the gallery owner. I wanted to make the gallery have photographs of the owner's life and escape from war-torn Vietnam. The intended audience for the gallery is targeted at people interested in a man's journey in fleeing the country. The photos are arranged in such a way to tell a story.

The exterior of the building is simple, but once inside, a person's perception of the building changes. I wanted to create the gallery to have a maze-like structure, allowing people to explore and get lost in the story trying to be told.

Swinging doors separate the spaces in the gallery sending them into a winding journey. The place may have a maze-like structural but people are also free to explore and can go through a direct route to the courtyard and back to the entrance. When patrons get to the courtyard, they can reflect on the journey they just went on and possibly reflect on their own life.
